Fabian Frank

I obtained my first degree, a BEng in Network & Software Technology, at the Cooperative State University Stuttgart in Germany. I decided to study for an MRes in Computing Science at the University of Glasgow, because I wanted to deepen my knowledge about Computing Science, probing deeply into various subjects like information retrieval, and get exposure to academia. Looking back, I gained a lot from courses like Research readings, which improve not only computing knowledge but also general analytical and scientific ability. Further, Machine learning and Information retrieval were very enjoyable, since they discuss the workings of algorithms that are the secret sauce of today's biggest computing companies. I wrote my masters thesis about the automatic generation of tags for images using machine learning algorithms. Today, I am working for Yahoo! Beijing, where I am building a new team, whose goal is to develop a new front-end platform using cutting edge technology, sharing the role of technical lead together with a senior colleague.

Susanne Oehler

My first degree was Bachelor in Computing Science at Haute Ecole Léonard de Vinci, Belgium. I came to the University of Glasgow because it offered a wide variety of courses and enabled the students to choose freely the subjects to attend during the course. The school is a dynamic and progressive environment for studies. The subject of my Master project was the development of a software tool for morphological and anatomical breast measurements for pre- and post surgery assessment for breast cancer treatment based on 3D imaging. I am now doing a PhD in Computing Science at the University of Glasgow.
