Russian, Central & East European Studies (Erasmus Mundus International Masters)
Programme structure
Year 1
You will take two core courses and two optional courses, at the University of Glasgow.
Compulsory core courses
- State and Society under Communism in Russia, Central and Eastern Europe
- Language (Czech, Estonian, Hungarian, Lithuanian, Polish, Russian, Slovak)
Optional courses
- Changing State and Society in Central Europe
- Developments in Czech Society since 1989
- Economic Transformation in Central East Europe
- Gender and Identity in Soviet and Post-Soviet Russia
- Globalisation and the New Security Agenda in Central and Eastern Europe
- Society, environment and the concept of sustainable development in post-Soviet Russia
- Statehood and Nationality in Central and Eastern Europe
- Stalin and Stalinism
- A maximum of one outside option from a cognate subject within the School of Social and Political Sciences or from a cognate School in the College of Arts or College of Social Sciences.

Year 2: study abroad & dissertation
In semester 1 you will attend lectures/seminars at an international partner university and may choose your study programme from a wide range of options. Relevant language options to a maximum of 6 ECTS may also be selected. Note that some of the partner universities require you to take some compulsory courses. Students must complete a minimum of 30 ECTS during this semester.
In semester 2 you will complete a 20,000-25,000 word dissertation. Dissertation research training is offered in Year 1. Note that the for the double degree programme the dissertation is submitted at the international partner university.
