Public Policy Research

Student Testimonials

"The MRes in Public Policy Research allowed me to study courses in the graduate school and courses taught within the Department of Urban Studies. The courses complimented each other well, allowing me to develop research training skills in conjunction with a practical understanding of policy making. Through completion of the MRes course, I made invaluable links with academics and other students with similar research interests. Furthermore, the course allows students the freedom to tailor course assignments to specific research interests, which was beneficial in preparing for the dissertation.  Overall I would thoroughly recommend this course to anyone taking forward this subject through either academic research or policy making."

Stacey Ryan - 1st year PhD student and MRes Public Policy 2009/2010

"I completed an MRes in Public Policy Research in 2009/10 and couldn't have been happier with the course. The teaching component was to an excellent standard and was complemented by first class support to assist me in my own Master's research. These merged to make the MRes a valuable stepping stone for going forward to undertake PhD research in Public Policy, but the combination of practice and research elements would also be a valuable and productive learning experience for anyone taking the course as a standalone qualification."

Lisa Bradley - 1st year PhD student and MRes Public Policy student 2009/2010

"As an international student, I enjoyed the Master of Research programme in Urban Studies at the University of Glasgow. Firstly, I was allowed and encouraged to take advantage of all the teaching resources in the university including undergraduate courses and access to professors in other disciplines. The international office helped me to become fully involved in the local study life through the provision of resources such as special language training and various study skill workshops. In addition, friendly and supportive research groups and supervision made me feel at home. The rigorous research atmosphere in Urban Studies not only offered valuable opportunities for communicating with students in different academic fields both in and outside the UK but also provided a comfortable research environment. What is more, I have experienced professional and systematic research methods training for the social sciences which has helped me build my knowledge and academic skills for future social and political study. I was able to undertake a challenging study in the public policy field that developed my research skills which I can now apply at PhD level. I do not regret the time I spent here. "
