Public Policy Research
Programme Structure
The MRes in Public Policy is a flexible programme: whilst most of our students study for the Research Masters on a full-time basis (12 months) it can also be undertaken part-time over two or three years. Some courses are offered in the evenings; other courses are delivered in intensive, 'conference style' blocks. Teaching is led by staff from the College of Social Sciences Graduate School and from Urban Studies working at the cutting-edge of their fields.
Students taking the MRes in Public Policy take 120 taught credits and complete a 60 credit dissertation.
There are three components to the taught element:
- core research methods courses, provided by the College of Social Sciences Graduate School (60 credits - Social Science Statistics I; Qualitative Methods; and Introduction to Social Theory for Researchers)
- subject-related core courses (Changing Cities and Neighbourhoods for UR - 20 credits; or Policy Analysis and Contemporary Government and Governance for PP - 40 credits);
- a choice of options, including subject specific options and more advanced research methods courses.
