Public Policy & Management
Careers
Teodora Gradinaciuc, graduated in the first cohort of the Masters in Public Policy & Management in 2011
After graduating, I started a career in the Romanian public administration. I am a public manager working for the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, contributing to the development of my country’s transport infrastructure and safety.
The work I do is not simple, but I have learned to cope with certain situations thanks to the management classes I have followed. My work relates to what I have studied in many respects, because I have found new ways to solve old problems and I feel I can contribute to the effective delivery of projects as a result. The experiences I have had from seeing how things are done in institutions in Scotland have been especially helpful.
I am convinced that I will be able to make a difference in the system I am working in because I have had the opportunity to have another kind of education, based on experience and finding effective solutions for great problems which appear at a national level.
Septimiu Szabo, graduated in the first cohort of the Masters in Public Policy & Management in 2011
After graduation, I started working as a public manager in the Romanian Government in the Ministry of Environment and Forests. My work was mostly related to the project management field. Some of the competences I needed to work in this field were developed through the courses in Glasgow, especially the ones related to innovation.
After one year there, I came to Brussels to do a traineeship in the European Free Trade Association. I hope to get more insight into how the European economic area works and into Norway Grants.
I have also continued my connections with Glasgow University by preparing an academic article based on my dissertation, together with my tutor. The paper is currently being reviewed by the International Journal of Human Resource Management.
Suzana Chiriac, graduated in the first cohort of the Masters in Public Policy & Management in 2011
After completing the MSc, I joined the National Government in Romania. From my first post, I was soon offered a job in another ministry, based on my previous studies and experience in the area of project management.
The MSc in Public Policy and Management has eased the way for me to join the public administration system. Building on my initial BA degree, the MSc completed my learning in the area with specific issues, such as public policy evaluation, design and monitoring. These are areas I now use on a daily basis in my current job as a Public Manager within the National Government. The electives I chose have proved to be of great help with financial and project management issues.
The tools I developed through case-study work as a Masters student can be as easily applied in practice. I feel that I know how to act in certain situations, based on the simulations that I did during classes.
I am still using many of those tools from the personal and professional development course. I have got used to self-evaluating my performance, while constantly asking for feedback, which makes my work both easier and more inspiring.
