Molecular Medicine
Research Placements
The Faculty of Medicine is at the forefront of leading edge clinical interventions and discovery and is one of the largest medical faculties in Europe. Our laboratories are staffed by excellent, internationally-renowned researchers, both biomedical scientists and clinicians.
The MRes Molecular Medicine Programme is delivered by the School of Medicine and Institute for Cancer Sciences. This includes large groups funded by Cancer Research UK and other cancer charities, including the Beatson institute for Cancer Research, which represents one of the largest collections of cancer biologists in the United Kingdom. Our researchers include groups from various academic disciplines, including surgery, medical and radiation oncology, pathology, haematology, and others.
What sort of research placements are available?
Research topics for the placements range from basic research into gene regulation and DNA repair, mechanisms of development and carcinogenesis in mouse models, through to translational research on chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and the use of profiling technologies for cancer diagnosis and classification. Over the two placements, you will be able to develop a wide range of molecular biology, cell biology and pathology skills. Previous research projects have been carried out in the following laboratories:
