Nupur Chatterjee, Masters/Msc Media Management 2010-11
After working in a digital creative firm as a creative writer and project manager, I felt the need to increase my knowledge and strengthen my career prospects with a postgraduate degree. I chose to study in the UK because it seemed like a better investment, in terms of time and money. The University of Glasgow was an obvious choice, ranked among the top 100 universities in the world, and one of the best in the UK. Media Management was the exact course I was looking for, and I was very excited to leave home for the first time to experience a new culture and learn new things.
After a year, I can safely say that the Media Management programme has exceeded my expectations. The course is very well structured and core subjects address topics and questions that are integral to the media industry in every country. The electives offered are practically chosen and help students realise their potential in specialised fields. What truly makes studying Media Management at the University of Glasgow unique is the teaching staff. Highly recognised, widely published and very experienced individuals spearhead this course, identifying students’ needs and adopting the crucial roles of mentors and friends.
My classmates on the Media Management programme came from all over the world and I have made great friends this year through all our interaction. It has been a wonderful experience for me, and with Glasgow being a very important and active media hub, I have also been introduced to the industry through visiting guest speakers to the course and occasional field trips. This degree has armed me with exactly what I wanted –the knowledge and confidence that will help me excel as a digital media professional.

"My first time to leave the United States was when I came to Glasgow to further my education. My aim was to have an international experience and travel the world. I also wanted to study at a great school with lots of history. I got everything I wanted here and so much more. The educators at the University of Glasgow, specifically on the Media Management programme, are second to none. Their knowledge of the field of media ensures a challenging and rewarding experience for students whether recent graduates or, like me, coming with a period of professional experience in industry.
My education at Glasgow did not stop at the classroom. Many students at the University and on the MSc in Media Management come from all over the world. In the past year I have learned so much about different cultures and the way media businesses operate within those cultures. The knowledge I have gained is almost overwhelming. I have gained friends and colleagues from just about every country. This opportunity has lifted me and my skills to an international level. I feel very lucky and fortunate for my experiences here. In fact, I have enjoyed Glasgow and Scotland so much that I am now undertaking further advanced studies in management."

"Coming from China, I found the University of Glasgow a lovely place to stay and to study. The library service is excellent and accommodation is very comfortable so my experience as a student at Glasgow has been one I will always appreciate. The teaching staff here impressed me on account of their enthusiasm and commitment to their academic activities. The diverse activities organized by students from all over the world reinforced my belief that this University is a friendly and open place that is ideal for students from different cultures to come to in order to study, make friends and develop skills.
As for my major, namely the MSc in Media Management, the programme provided several courses that I found very helpful. Participating on the Masters in Media Management at Glasgow has offered me the chance to understand the media industry through a wide range of themes and perspectives. I have found my time spent studying here very rewarding and, after graduation, I hope to pursue a career in the area of advertising and PR and to draw on the knowledge I have gained about media analysis and strategic planning in the media."

Daniel Wiechmann, Masters/MSc in Media Management programme 2008-09
"What do you expect from an international oriented media masters programme? In today's media world, it is your obligation as media managers to not only understand the economics and policy, but also to know about strategies of how to deal with the converging and digitising nature of the environment. At the Centre for Cultural Policy Research (CCPR) and its co-operation with the well-known business school at Glasgow you get a promising set of tools - be it in the area of intellectual property law, strategy and marketing, media policy or finance. You name it. Best of all, not only do you get input from top University staff who are specialists known far beyond the Scottish borders, you also enjoy guest lectures by executives within the media industry, which inspire you to think out of the box. The programme is quite ambitious in the scope and range of subjects covered, but is absolutely worth it, no matter where you hope to start your career. It is also great to get to know the diversity of cultures converging within the programme - in the class of 2009 my fellow students came from Canada, China, India, Italy and Sri-Lanka. I finished the programme in August 2009 and have commenced my career as a Trainee at Axel Springer in Hamburg (Germany)."

Stefan Reinhardt, Masters/MSc in Media Management programme 2007-08
"Coming from a cultural and literary studies background, I wanted to give myself an edge in the business and management related parts of the media. This is what I found in the Media Management course here at the Centre for Cultural Policy Research and in its co-operation with the Glasgow Business School, something that showed me new and more analytical ways of looking at business issues. The course gave a broad overview of many different kinds of media issues and the challenges that the media are facing, from economics to politics and management, which opened up many possibilities for up-to-date research. All in all, a very good and successful year, owing much to the experience offered at the University of Glasgow and to the City of Glasgow and Scotland, and not least to the people one might have the luck of meeting here and making friends with. Having graduated with the MSc in Media Management in December 2008, I am busy doing an internship in the advertising department of a magazine in Berlin, adding work experience to the theory."

Enrico from Italy, Masters/MSc in Media Management programme 2007/08
"I chose the MSc in Media Management because of the outstanding international reputation of the University of Glasgow and specifically that of CCPR's academic staff. I would surely suggest to a prospective student to apply for this programme: it offers the right balance between the more theoretical academic knowledge and the analytical management tools that are vital in the working environment. I finished the programme in August 2008 and I started working for an international sports marketing company. The knowledge and skills acquired during the programme have been important in getting this fantastic job and they are definitely helping me in my daily tasks.
The University of Glasgow is simply amazing, providing anything a student would need, from a wide choice of excellent services and facilities to the more trivial recreation. Plus Glasgow is a young and vibrant city, full of students, museums, bars, clubs and any kind of entertainment and cultural initiative, being at the same time inexpensive if compared to other major British cities."
