Dr Carol Hill is the Programme Director and a Senior lecturer in Health and Social Policy. Her interests in the political economy and applied health and social policy are reflected in a research portfolio that includes studies into: ‘the barriers to women achieving their potential’; ‘the engagement of older people in the development of social enterprises for elder care’; ‘how young people make their Higher Education choices’; and, evaluations of ‘Building Healthy Communities’, the ‘Integrated Assessment Framework’, and ‘Community Development Approaches to Supporting Older People Affected by Cancer’.

Dr Sandy Whitelaw has extensive teaching, practice and research experience in the field of public health & health improvement. His particular interest in applied policy analysis is reflected in his research into, for example, health promoting settings, tobacco control measures and mechanisms for promoting physical activity.

Dr Sean Johnston is a Reader in the History of Science and Technology. He has extensive teaching experience in the field of ethics, the philosophy of scientific knowledge and cultural studies of technology, and is internationally recognised for his research which focuses on the historical sociology of new disciplines. His work has informed four books and numerous invited international conferences.

Dr Benjamin Franks is a lecturer in Political and Social Philosophy with particular expertise in applied ethics, notably in the fields of education and social research.

Dr Stuart Hanscomb specialises in applying his academic background of philosophy and psychology to problems of communication. His teaching and research interests include the psychology and pedagogical application of argumentation and rhetoric. He also acts as a consultant for the marketing psychologists Mountainview, whose clients include HSBC, Ford and Tesco
