Managing Health & Wellbeing (Dumfries Campus) MLitt

This Masters programme explores the effective inter-sector and inter-agency partnerships that are key to the successful development and delivery of policies and strategies for health and wellbeing in various workplaces.

  • The MLitt in Managing Health & Wellbeing develops the crossdisciplinary approaches that will help you communicate more effectively across different sectors, increase your understanding of the inter-related roles that are essential contributors to effective inter-agency working and successfully deliver agendas for health, wellbeing and social citizenship.
  • The programme is structured so that you can balance study with existing work commitments.
  • You will benefit from the input of practitioners and policy makers from the NHS and local authorities.

Programme overview

  • MLitt: 12 months full-time; 24 months part-time
  • PgDip: 12 months full-time; 24 months part-time
  • PgCert: 12 months full-time; 24 months part-time

You must complete two core courses and choose two optional courses. It is possible either to write a dissertation of 12,000-15,000 words or complete a placement.

As well as lectures and seminars, there’s a focus on ‘problem-based learning’: structured around set problems that are generated from within the group or set by academic staff.

  • Communication and management psychology
  • Making ethical judgements 
  • Policy and principles of research in the public sector 
  • Media health and wellbeing.

Career prospects

You’re likely to be already employed in the voluntary, statutory and private sectors. The programme is an excellent source of professional development for roles in theses sectors.

You should have a first degree, or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant subject, or professional experience in a related field.
