This degree is intended to prepare students for a career as a chartered surveyor, primarily as a member of the Commercial Property or Valuation Professional Groups of the RICS.
Part 1a: Understanding Cities, Markets, Institutions and Governance

Part 1b: Exploring Reflective Practice
- Professional Practice, Ethics & Management (10 credits)
Part 2: Making a Practical Difference
- Real Estate Markets (10 credits)
- Real Estate Finance & Investment (10 credits)
- Real Estate Valuation and Appraisal (10 credits)
- Advanced Real Estate Valuation and Appraisal (10 credits)
PLUS 20 credits of optional courses taken from the following list:
- Asian Cities (20 credits). This is a foreign fieldtrip with additional travel and accommodation expenses.
- International Real Estate Analysis (20 credits)
Part 3: Research Experience and Skills (60 credits)
In Part 3, students work in depth on a international real estate topic of their own choice (subject to the approval of the Programme Director), pursuing original investigative work through an academic dissertation or practically orientated action project. This work is supported by research methods training, review seminars and the appointment of an academic supervisor for each student.
