International Accounting & Financial Management
Meet Patience Bokhutlo Tsheko
Patience graduated from the MAcc in International Accounting & Financial Management in 2009. She now works as an Internal Auditor for Kingdom Bank Africa Ltd.
What are you doing now?
I am currently engaged as an Internal Auditor in an offshore investment bank based in Botswana, Africa, where I am in charge of the department. I assess the internal controls of my organisation and determine if the controls established by management are effective and adequate to mitigate the associated risks. This involves mapping the existing core processes and finding duplication or unnecessary procedures. My main roles include auditing various sections of the bank and reporting on the findings and making recommendations to management. I also present my findings to the audit committee at quarterly board meetings.
How has your experience on the MAcc degree been useful?
It boosted my confidence and made me more open to opportunities. It provided me with various opportunities in fields like accounting and finance, and will definitely come in handy when I decide to venture into any of these fields. As an international student I was exposed to different and interesting aspects of life, like interacting with different cultural backgrounds during group work and assignments.
Can you offer any advice for prospective Accounting & Finance postgraduate students?
Glasgow University is the place to be because it has good resources like modern libraries, tutorials and knowledgeable lecturers. The Adam Smith Business School has supportive postgraduate administrators who are always available and willing to assist.
