Teaching Staff

The LLM in Intellectual Property and the Digital Economy is taught by a team who combine academic excellence with first-hand knowledge and experience of the practical workings of the law in a wide range of related areas, including: intellectual property law, competition law, ecommerce, and information technology

Practical Experience

Members of staff have:

• worked at EU institutions including the European Commission and the European Court of Justice
• worked at major law firms specialising in intellectual property law and EU competition law
• provided legal advice to a diverse range of commercial organisations on ecommerce, rights management, intellectual property, and information issues
• extensive litigation experience in relation to intellectual property infringement, information technology law, data protection, and breach of confidence

Academic Excellence

Members of staff:

• have published widely in leading publications on questions of international, EU and national intellectual property law, as well as EU competition law
• have contributed to leading international collaborative research projects such as Primary Sources on Copyright (1450-1900)
• sit on the Advisory Board of a number of peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Comparative Law, the European Journal of Law and Technology, and the Web Journal of Current Legal Issues
• hold positions and have taught at a number of other leading universities, including the University of Oslo, Stockholm University, the Université Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense (Paris X), the Catholic University of Lisbon, and Georgia State University

Staff Outreach

Members of staff:

• participate in the work of numerous important organisations such as the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, the Centre for International, European & Comparative Law (Paris IV), the Art and Humanities Research Council, the International Society for the History and Theory of Intellectual Property, and the Law Society of Scotland’s Technology Committee
• are regularly invited to present papers at seminars, workshops, and international conferences in the UK and abroad
• judge on international mooting competitions such as the Oxford International Intellectual Property Moot, the European Law Moot Court Competition, and the Central and Eastern European Moot Court Competition
