Information Management & Preservation (Digital)/(Archives & Records Management)

Programme structure

Full time

For full time students the degree programme will consist of eight courses spread over two semesters. All students will take courses in:

In addition, students aiming for the qualification of MSc in Information Management and Preservation (Digital) will take further courses in Digitisation, and Document Encoding. This degree would comprise courses 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 8.

Students aiming for the qualification of MSc in Information Management and Preservation (Archives & Records Management) will take additional modules in Archives & Records Theory, and Records & the Transition to the Digital. This degree would comprise courses 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Part time

For part time students the degree programme will consist of eight courses spread over four semesters (two years). Students wishing to complete the programme on a part-time basis over two years would normally be expected to take courses in the following order:

CPD

Students wishing to complete the degree programme on a Continuing Professional Development basis, attending classes 1 day per week, would normally be expected to take courses in the following order:

Individual courses can also be taken on a CPD basis.

Strands

Students can take either the Archive and Records Management or Digital strands.

Credits and exit points

Each course (with the exception of the Dissertation) is worth 20 credits. Students taking individual courses will be eligible for the award of a Postgraduate Certificate after successfully attaining 60 credits.

Students who do not submit a dissertation will be eligible for the award of Postgraduate Diploma after successfully attaining 120 credits.

The Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma will be awarded in Information Management and Preservation (Digital) or (Archives and Records Management) depending on which strand students follow.

Students completing 6 courses and successfully attaining 120 credits plus successful submission of the dissertation will be awarded an MSc in Information Management and Preservation (Digital) or (Archives & Records Management).
