Human Nutrition
Background
This Masters programme provides students with expert evidenced based nutritional knowledge, critical review skills and a range of other transferable skills which are highly sought after within the competitive job market. This MSc is unique in the UK in providing four different specialisation areas – Public Health Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Obesity & Weight Management and Sports & Exercise Nutrition.
Graduates are well placed for a variety of employment opportunities in the food and health industries, public health, research, health promotion, food policy, the media and relief/development work in less developed countries. There is an expanding role for high quality nutritionists in all these sectors. The programme is intended to meet this demand.

It is well established that nutrition is a vital determinant in the world's major preventable diseases. The University of Glasgow has a long tradition of excellence in nutrition. Staff include international level researchers who have led studies with major impact on global policy and practice.
This highly successful Masters programme has been running for the past 15 years with a range of graduates from all over the world. Students come with a variety of backgrounds, from applied science to pure science, and some of our most successful students have no previous nutrition knowledge. We offer a high level of support to encourage all students to reach their potential.
The aims of the MSc (Med.Sci.) programme are:
- To provide a thorough grounding in the principles of human nutrition.
- To equip graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful career in nutrition, both in the UK or overseas.
- To enable graduates to engage in, and contribute to, current debates about major issues in nutrition.
- To provide in-depth training in the skills necessary for engaging in and interpreting nutrition research.
