Housing Studies
Programme Structure
To gain the Postgraduate Diploma in Housing Studies, students must complete eight compulsory 10 credit core courses and 40 credits worth of topic courses from the 3 Options Routes. These total 120 credits. The six core courses covered in the First Year (part-time route) are:
- Economic Framework for Housing (10 credits)
- Housing and the Inclusive Society (10 credits)
- Housing Policy (10 credits)
- Scottish Housing Law (10 credits)
- Housing Businesses (10 credits)
- Foundations of Housing Management (10 credits)
In the Second Year (part-time route), the two core courses are:
- Housing Management Reflective Practice (10 credits)
- Management Themes for Housing Organisations (10 credits)
Students then choose from one of three Options Routes to complete the additional 40 credits required for the award. Options are taken in the Second Year by part-time students. Most are run jointly with other postgraduate programmes based in Urban Studies and this will give many students the opportunity to work with, and encounter the practices of other professional groups in housing related fields. Although we endeavour to run all options, each must have a minimum number of students to run.
Part-Time students will be asked to choose their options before the start of Year 2. This is primarily for Registration purposes and options can be changed early in the year if there is a need to do so.
