Health Technology Assessment

Programme Background

The MSc in Health Technology Assessment is a newly launched master’s course created in response to the growing need internationally for HTA practitioners and the lack of courses specifically designed to train them. HTA practitioners are involved in the evaluation of different health interventions and medical technologies, assessing various factors such as effectiveness, costs, safety and their broader social and ethical implications. We welcome applications from a broad range of academic disciplines- not just health or medical backgrounds. In particular, Statistics or Economics graduates might find the course an interesting new area in which to apply their skills. The course is truly multi-disciplinary and brings together the strengths of academic staff and their varied research interests from across the University’s Institute of Health and Wellbeing. The Institute spans the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences, and the College of Social Sciences, and aims to improve population health and wellbeing, and reduce inequalities in health globally. The Masters in HTA is the latest addition in a long list of teaching, research and academic strengths within the Institute, which are internationally recognised.  The course is also unique in Scotland and only one of the few of its kind worldwide.
