Programme Aims
Critically appraise the evidence base for spiritual and religious care practice
- Develop knowledge and understanding of healthcare chaplaincy practice
- Enable the development of academic foundations to support the delivery of evidence based care
- Equip students to engage in the advancement of healthcare chaplaincy
- Emerge with the capacity to be Board Registered Chaplains with the UK Board of Healthcare Chaplaincy
Programme Structure
There are three compulsory courses for the Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Chaplaincy:
- Providing Spiritual and Religious Care in Healthcare
- Professional Practice in Spiritual and Religious Care in Healthcare
- Advanced Health Care Practice
All courses are offered at 20 credits and combined give the 60 credits required to gain the Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Chaplaincy.
The programme is structured to enable students from all over the UK to study. Each of the three courses have two study days with the remainder of the work completed by on-line distance learning using the University’s Moodle platform.
Attendance at the University is one day per month during September, October, November, January, February and May.
All students will be supported by a local Mentor who is a Board Registered Chaplain with the UK Board of Healthcare Chaplaincy.
Students can choose to study over one or two years. A typical programme would be:
Over 1 year
Providing Spiritual and Religious Care in Healthcare (September – December)
Professional Practice in Spiritual and Religious Care in Healthcare (January – March)
Advanced Health Care Practice (September – May)
Over two years
Year 1: Providing Spiritual and Religious Care in Healthcare (September – December)
Professional Practice in Spiritual and Religious Care in Healthcare (January – March)
Year 2: Advanced Health Care Practice (September – May)
