Programme Structure
The Masters Programme
The programme is modular, allowing flexible routes to different levels of qualification. The MSc requires 180 credits, including a major independent project, the Postgraduate Diploma requires 120 credits and the Postgraduate Certificate requires 60 credits:
- Introduction to the Programme
- Principles of Land Survey (10 credits)
- Maths, Stats and Geodesy for Mapping (10 credits)
- Principles of GIS (10 credits)
- Land Survey Instrumentation and Methods (10 credits)
- Geodesy and GNSS (10 credits)
- Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing I (10 credits) and II (5 credits)
- Hydrographic Survey I (10 credits) and II (5 credits)
- Engineering Survey I (10 credits) and II (5 credits)
- Land Registration/Cadastre and LIS I (10 credits) and II (5 credits)
- NSDI (5 credits)
- Research and Professional Issues (10 credits)
- Field Course (1 week)
A 10 credit course represents approximately 100 hours of student time, including formal classes, self study and assessment. Apart from the MSc project, each taught course includes teaching on 1 day per week over a 5 week period; additional time will be spent on practical work, reading and report writing.
The MSc can be completed full-time over 12 months, or on a part-time basis over 2-3 years with 1 or 2 days attendance during term time. The PG Diploma requires 9 months full-time or 2-3 academic sessions part-time. The Postgraduate Certificate can be completed in 4 months, or be spread over up to 3 years. The MSc project (full or part-time) may be undertaken in collaboration with industry/employers.
