Film Journalism
Background
The University of Glasgow’s Film Journalism Masters bridges the gap between theoretical study and practical application. The programme covers the wide variety of writing about film which takes place in different contexts, ranging from the extended essay in specialist magazines to film reviewing and promotional pieces.
The Programme Convenor, Dr David Archibald, has extensive experience as a film critic and he is supported by a number of established practitioners who deliver guest lectures and pass on valuable tips and information. Recent guest lecturers included:
- Hannah McGill (Former Artistic Director, Edinburgh International Film Festival)
- Janice Forsyth (BBC Radio Scotland)
- Alistair Harkness (The Scotsman)
- Mitch Miller (Editor, The Drouth: Scotland’s Literary Quarterly)
The programme encourages students to put the skills that they learn on the programme into practice and there is a strong emphasis on engaging with Scotland’s vibrant film culture through involvement in activities such as the Glasgow Film Festival (February) and the Edinburgh International Film Festival (June).
