Background

This exciting new programme builds on ten years of Postgraduate Education in Addiction studies delivered by STRADA (Scottish Training on Drugs and Alcohol) and the University of Glasgow. The Masters programme has been developed for people interested in advancing their understanding of Drug and Alcohol issues.

Who is the programme for?

People from many diverse professional and working backgrounds are involved with Drug and Alcohol problems. This MSc in Drug and Alcohol Studies programme is aimed at a wide range of people currently working with drug and alcohol issues, in both specialist and non-specialist settings. The programme is devised to enhance and develop specialist knowledge and skills for people who wish to pursue a career in Drug and Alcohol work.

What will you get from this programme?

The programme has been developed to give students the opportunity to critically review theory, policy; both Internationally and in Scotland, and critically reflect on implications for their practice in working with drug and alcohol problems.

The aim of the programme will be to:

  • Encourage a critical reflection of drug and alcohol issues in relation to a range of theoretical perspectives.
  • Develop the ability to critically examine research, policy and consider the application of evidence-informed practice for drug and alcohol interventions.
  • Provide students with an opportunity to undertake an in-depth investigation of their practice to compliment their understanding of Drug and Alcohol issues.

Accredited Prior Learning (APL)

Graduates of the PgCertificate in Addictions and the PgCertificate in Leadership for Drug and Alcohol settings can use their credits towards this programme.
