Crop Biotechnology MSc

Excellent MRes/MSc students will be considered for an annual PhD scholarship award (one per annum). International students will be considered but would be required to contribute the Home/EU-International fee differential or apply to the School/Institute for this support.

This Masters programme in Crop Biotechnology will examine the dominant global issue of food security and the need to develop sustainable agriculture.

  • You will gain the knowledge and skills required to develop a career in crop biotechnology. 
  • As severe problems with agricultural production in some countries become more widespread as the global population increases and further pressure is placed on agricultural land; and the issue of global warming impacts on crop production, it will become increasingly necessary to employ biotechnological approaches to produce novel genotypes.

Programme overview

  • MSc: 12 months full-time

You will attend lectures and tutorials and undertake practical training, exercises that develop transferable skills, a business module, a dissertation and a project.

A second class Honours degree or equivalent (eg GPA of 3.0 or above) in a relevant subject. Professional experience may be taken into account.

Applicants should have taken courses in plant biology with molecular biology, cell biology, genetics and/or biochemistry.
