Clinical Science with Specialisation MSc
This taught Masters is designed to provide you with a solid base in research methodology and to develop skills in evidence-based practice and in related audit and research. A key strength of this programme is its flexibility, which enables students to focus on their chosen speciality (either Paediatric Science, Reproductive & Maternal Sciences or Surgical Oncology).
- This programme is designed for international medical graduates who wish to develop skills in evidence-based practice and in related audit and research
- The emphasis is on the academic principles of students’ specializations rather than a hands on clinical attachment
- This programme has been developed with the specific intent of fostering intellectual and research rigour in students whose academic background in these areas has been limited
- At the end of the programme it will facilitate academic and clinical careers for students and in addition will provide students with a sufficient grounding to pursue research at doctoral level
- The programme fosters a questioning mentality in its students and actively encourages students to question accepted wisdom by developing in them critical and reflective skills on accepted practice
- You will develop skills in evaluating accepted practices underlying students’ current knowledge and skill base and the intention is that students will be able to confirm or refute the principles underlying their practice and to be able to defend this intellectually

Career prospects
This programme is likely to enhance your chance of getting an academic or teaching hospital post either in your home country or in the UK, although the latter will be dependent on current and future legislation and medical registration, with greater knowledge, expertise and clinical acumen than they had prior to the programme. Some candidates might want to undertake a PhD or MD. Candidates will be provided with a rigorous scientific basis for evidence-based practice in a specialism outside the UK in order to prepare them to lead and develop services on return to their country or origin.

Visa requirements and proof of English language level
It is a visa requirement to provide information on your level of English based on an internationally recognised and secure English language test. All test reports must be no more than 2 years old. A list of these can be found on the UK Border Agency website. If you have never taken one of these tests before, you can get an initial idea of your level by using the Common European Framework self-assessment grid which gives you a level for each skill (e.g. listening B1/writing B2 etc.) However, please note that this is not a secure English language test and it is not sufficient evidence of your level of English for visa requirements.
