Get involved: activities beyond your degree
The University of Glasgow offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities to complement your studies. Apart from the huge range of sports and other societies organized by the university, the following links provide further information on some groups which are particularly relevant to students on this MSc programme:
- Glasgow University Engineering Society – each semester G.U.E.S. organises events such as industrial visits or formal dinners with industry to help you network and meet practising engineers as well as a variety of social events from bar crawls to ceilidhs. On top of this they also have various sports teams that practise on a weekly basis and participate in the university leagues.
- Engineers Without Borders – an international development organisation that removes barriers to development through engineering. The University of Glasgow has an active branch where you can participate in weekly meetings with projects that allow you to apply your engineering knowledge to real world applications. This is often the first step for a placement with a development organisation abroad or perhaps even a career in the voluntary sector.
- University of Glasgow International Society – a very active society who organise a diverse range of events throughout the year from weekend trips to the Highlands of Scotland to international movie nights and salsa classes. The international society is a great place to make new friends, especially if you are new to Glasgow, and is open to all nationalities, not just overseas students.
