Programme structure
This degree is intended to prepare students for a career as a chartered town planner as a member of the RTPI.

Part 1: Understanding Cities, Markets, Institutions and Governance
- Changing Cities & Neighbourhoods (20 credits)
- Contemporary Government & Governance (Real Estate & Planning) (20 credits)
- Development Economics & Real Estate Appraisal (20 credits)
Part 2: City and Regional Planning in Action
Part 2a: Becoming a Reflective and Effective Practitioner
- Professional Practice & Ethics (10 credits)
- Strategic Management & Decision-Making (10 credits)
Part 2b: Making a Practical Difference
- Designing Places (10 Credits)
- Spatial Planning Strategies (10 Credits) PLUS EITHER
- Economic Development & Employment (20 Credits) OR
- Sustainable Housing Development (20 Credits) OR
- Urban Design Policy & Practice (10 Credits) AND
- either Real Estate Development (10 Credits) OR
- an approved course offered in Urban Design by the Department of Architecture, University of Strathclyde
Part 3: Research Experience and Skills (60 credits)
In Part 3, students work in depth on a planning topic of their own choice (subject to the approval of the Programme Director), pursuing original investigative work through an academic dissertation or practically orientated action project. This work is supported by research methods training, review seminars and the appointment of an academic supervisor for each student.
