Programme Structure
This degree is intended to prepare students for a career as a chartered town planner and/or chartered surveyor, as a member of the RTPI and/or the Planning and Development Professional Group of the RICS.

Part 1: Understanding Cities, Markets, Institutions and Governance

- Contemporary Government & Governance (Real Estate & Planning) (20 credits)
- Development Economics & Real Estate Appraisal (20 credits)
Part 2: City Planning & Real Estate Development in Action
Part 2a: Becoming a Reflective and Effective Practitioner
- Professional Practice & Ethics (10 credits)
- Strategic Management & Decision-Making (10 credits)
Part 2b: Making a Practical Difference
- Designing Places (10 Credits)
- Real Estate Development (10 Credits)

- Spatial Planning Strategies (10 Credits)
Part 3: Research Experience and Skills (60 credits)
In Part 3, students work in depth on a planning & development topic of their own choice (subject to the approval of the Programme Director), pursuing original investigative work through an academic dissertation or practically orientated action project. This work is supported by research methods training, review seminars and the appointment of an academic supervisor for each student.
