University of Glasgow extends appointment of Principal by five years
Issued: Wed, 10 Oct 2012 14:00:00 BST
The University of Glasgow is to extend the appointment of Professor Anton Muscatelli as Principal and Vice-Chancellor by five years after his current term of office expires in September 2014.
The decision was taken on Wednesday 10 October as recommended by a review carried out by a representative group of University of Glasgow Court including staff, student and lay members.
Convenor of Court, David Ross, said, “The Principal’s contract for an initial term of five years stipulated that there would be a review by no later than April 2013 in order to decide whether the term of appointment should be extended. The University Court agreed earlier this year that as the Research Excellence Framework will run until 2013 it was in the best interests of the University that the review of the tenure of office should be carried out this year.”
“Having concluded this review the group unanimously recommended to Court that the Principal’s appointment should be extended to run until September 2019. The University Court unanimously endorsed that recommendation, believing strongly that Professor Muscatelli has led the University very effectively through difficult times since his appointment in 2009, and that he has a clear vision and programme of action to implement the University’s strategy of Glasgow 2020:A Global Vision and to lead the University to further success in the years ahead.”
The Principal, Professor Anton Muscatelli said, “I am extremely grateful to the University Court for its strong message of support. It has been a pleasure to lead the University of Glasgow through the past three years, and I look forward to developing our exciting plans for the future and in confirming and extending the world class reputation that the University of Glasgow has for teaching, research and a superb student experience.”
