Award-nominated Physics Show at Glasgow Science Festival

Ground-breaking research led by UofG physicists and astronomers will be shared through music, comedy and visuals with performances of ‘Chasing the Waves’ in the Kelvin Hall.

On Friday 16 and Saturday 17 June, ground-breaking research led by University of Glasgow physicists and astronomers will be shared through music, comedy and visuals with performances of ‘Chasing the Waves’ in the Kelvin Hall.

The show, which was recently nominated for a Herald Education Award, sheds a light on how Glasgow scientists helped detect gravitational waves, ripples in the fabric of space-time caused by massive events in space.

Earlier this month, researchers announced the third detection of gravitational waves, caused by the collision of two black holes 3 billion light years away.

‘Chasing the Waves’ presents an opportunity for Glasgow scientists to discuss their latest findings with the public. The events will feature Q&As with Prof Martin Hendry, Brynley Pearlstone and a live Skype link-up with Daniel Williams, a PhD student currently working at the LIGO detector site in Louisiana.

Space enthusiasts can also “Meet the Black Hole Hunters” on Friday 9 June with a special event led by Prof Kenneth Strain.
