Become an “Ask Me” Ambassador

Published: 4 August 2017

Become an “Ask Me” Ambassador and help us welcome new students to the University of Glasgow this September!

Following a successful pilot held last year, the “Ask Me” campaign will return from Friday 1 September and we are looking for members of staff from across the University to volunteer. We are striving to improve the introduction of new students to the University of Glasgow community and to enhance their experience.

It is important for our students to feel welcome and supported when they arrive. That’s where you can make an invaluable contribution with your wealth of experience, friendly face and information on hand.

How you will help:

The campaign, which will be based on the Main Campus, will involve you wearing an “Ask Me” badge and/or lanyard for the duration of September, while you go about your usual business. These will act as prompts, indicating that students can approach you and ask for help.

To aid you in this task, we will provide you with useful information and answers to the most common student questions.

Who can get involved:

  • This is open to all University of Glasgow staff
  • We’re looking for as many volunteers as possible

What’s in it for you:

By wearing the badge or lanyard, you will have an opportunity to connect with students, experience the vibrant Campus buzzing with a variety of events at the start of session and gain even more insight and perspective into the student life.

Previous Ambassadors found positive benefits of taking part in the campaign:

“I feel that working for a service that is not normally student facing – that I have helped contribute directly to the student experience in the University.”

“Fantastic campaign – really engaged lots of people (staff and students).”

“I thought it sent out a really friendly message to new students and I liked seeing the pink badges around and seeing the number of staff who had got on board to welcome new students.”
