Wellcome Centre holds International Scientific Board event

Wellcome Centre for Molecular Parasitology (WCMP) recently held its annual International Scientific Board (ISAB) and Retreat at Dunblane Hydro Hotel.

Wellcome Centre for Molecular Parasitology (WCMP) recently held its annual International Scientific Board (ISAB) and Retreat at Dunblane Hydro Hotel, writes Alexandra Mackay, WCMP.

The event attended by over 100 Centre members was a three day opportunity for science talks/posters and networking. Invited speakers this year included Dr Francis Ndungu from KEMRI Wellcome Trust programme, Professor Edward Pearce, Max Planck Institute,  Professor Murray Selkirk, Imperial College London and Professor Miles Padgett, University of Glasgow.

Global Citizenship

Dr Stuart FergussonAn added dimension this year was a talk from Dr Stuart Fergusson from Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow who spoke about the recently released Global Citizenship in the Scottish Health Service report. Launched last month the policy report by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow focusses on the mutual benefits of international volunteering.

Professor Andy Waters, Director Wellcome Centre for Molecular Parasitology said: “WCMP wholeheartedly embraces the concept of Global Citizenship that Stuart’s document defines. We need through all of our activities to advance the awareness and treatment of global health concerns. All at WCMP wish this initiative every success."
