Call for TEDx displays

UofG researchers are wanted to host interactive display spaces at this year’s TEDxGlasgow event on Friday 2 June at the SEC Armadillo.

The University is looking for researchers to host interactive display spaces at this year’s TEDxGlasgow event on Friday 2nd June in the SEC Armadillo, writes Dr Jamie Gallagher, Public Engagement Officer.

You will have the opportunity to present an interactive station where the TEDx delegates can get up close with our world changing research. This is a high profile opportunity with a chance to share your work with an audience likely to include business representatives, policy makers, press and the public. We anticipate being able to host 4 small groups (2-3 researchers), with one table per group.

The 2017 theme is “Lead or Follow” and displays should be related to this broad theme.

To apply fill out the application form by Friday 28 April. Decisions will be made by a cross-university panel in the first week of May.

Think about...

  • For activities such as this remember that the interaction window is very short, so emphasis should be placed on attracting and quickly engaging the audience.
  • Objects, activities, questions, games, tests and demonstrations work well. Showing videos and displaying posters tend to be less effective in this environment so effort should be places on creative displays and interactions.
  • Think about sharing ideas and information mutually rather than just telling delegates about your research. People value the opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions.
  • The station must be able to run the whole day (9-5pm). Set-up will either be the evening before or at 8am on the day.
