Scottish Boat Race

Why not enjoy the fun and drama of this year's Scottish Boat Race on Saturday 20 May? Go along and support the UofG teams against the auld enemy University of Edinburgh.

This year's Scottish Boat Race takes place on the River Clyde on Saturday 20th May 2017 between the two ancient rivals; the University of Glasgow and the University of Edinburgh.

The race, for the coveted title of ‘Scottish Boat Race Champion 2017, launches at the Tall Ship and Riverside Museum. Eight races will take place in total, including beginners, alumni, and first and second club teams, each beginning at the Squinty Bridge and finishing at the Tall Ship. The competition is set to be fierce, with Edinburgh currently holding the 2016 champion title!

The Scottish Boat Race has been running since 1877 and is the third oldest boat race in the world, behind the Oxford vs Cambridge and Harvard vs Yale Boat Races. Spectators can soak up the atmosphere at the new boat race riverside festival and cheer on their favourite team. The course will see the boats pass under four iconic Glasgow bridges, and provide the crews with a straight and fast course. Over the last twenty years, the Edinburgh women’s team have, on average, been victorious over Glasgow, however the Glasgow men’s team have come out on top more often.

A perfect family event with Live music, Street food and kid’s activities throughout the festival. The Scottish Boat Race Festival will kick off at 1000 with entertainment from ParkLives, Scottish Hockey and appearances from other local sports clubs. Races will take place from 1500-1700 and as both clubs celebrate their 150th anniversaries we need your support to help the University of Glasgow win the title!
