On Sunday 18 December you can go back in time to the WW1 Christmas trenches of 1917. Here's how...
You are warmly invited to Christmas in the Trenches at Glasgow's Pollok Park, 14.00-16.30 on Sunday, 18 December, writes Dr Jennifer Novotny, BA MLitt PhD FSAScot, Postdoctoral Research Assistant, Glasgow University's Great War Project.
Join us in the reconstructed WWI trenches at Digging In to learn about Christmas on the home front and the front lines. Find out how families and friends kept in touch 100 years ago while they were apart.
The event includes displays on how Christmas post and parcels got to the Western Front, pocket teddy bears carried by soldiers in WWI, and the 1914 Christmas truce, as well as craft activities. At 16.00 there will be a short candlelight Christmas carol service in the trenches led by Rev Stuart MacQuarrie, University of Glasgow chaplain.
