The Friends of Glasgow University Library have just announced their biggest ever grant to the Library - £94,000 for digital display equipment in the new Exhibition Area.

Graeme Smith, Chairman of the Friends of Glasgow University Library, said it was by far the largest award made in the Friends' history. He said: "We are helping to provide state of the art digital display equipment for the Exhibition Area at the entrance to the building. This will be fully open to members of the public and visiting groups.

"The funding we are making available will also cover new, high-tech equipment for the enlarged Conservation Studio on the same level. The new assets will help unlock the many treasures of the Library and Archives for study and enjoyment and promote public engagement."

Once the modernisation of the Library is completed in the Spring, the staff will be able to use the new areas to stage regular public events, lunchtime talks and show and tells, conservation demonstrations, and displays linked to campus conferences.

The Friends of the Library is a charitable society, open to all, which helps develop, support and promote the library for the benefit of the general public and academe.
