Reproduction service

The Maps, Official Publications and Statistics (MOPS) Unit provides a reproduction service which creates copies of collection material or your own material. 

  • Orders submitted by midday will be ready for collection from 2pm the next working day.
  • Orders submitted after midday will be ready from 2pm, two working days later.

We can copy your large format original material and print large format electronic files. We largely print PDF, PowerPoint or TIFF files however, we can also print most file formats created by standard Microsoft Office, GIS, CAD and graphic design software.

Scanning service

Our scanner can accept originals up to 92cm (36in) wide and 0.5cm thick, such as maps, plans, schematics, and artwork. We cannot scan books, periodicals, or any other bound volumes.

  • Up to A0 size, at resolutions up to 600dpi and as jpeg, tiff, or PDF. Price is per digital copy.
  • digital files can be supplied at a variety of resolutions.
  • a range of output formats available (JPG, TIFF, PDF, and more).

Items which might be damaged during the scanning process, or cause damage to library equipment, will not be scanned. Items submitted for scanning are done so at your own risk. We cannot accept responsibility for damage to items caused during the scanning process.

The decision of staff members in all cases is final.

Please note this is a staffed service and the scanner is not available for general use.

Reproductions

We can supply reproductions:

  • in monochrome or colour
  • from A3 to A0
  • Larger than A0 prints up to 42" wide (price available upon request)
  • images can be enlarged or reduced upon request
  • printed on high quality premium coated paper, photo matt/satin paper or canvas

Some examples of material which can be reproduced are:

  • maps
  • posters
  • signs
  • blueprint copies
  • architectural plans
  • art projects 

Items which might be damaged, or might cause damage to library equipment, will not be copied. Items submitted for reproduction are done so at the patrons own risk. We cannot accept responsibility for damage to items during the copying process.

Paper Sizes

This table lists the dimensions for the A paper series which is most commonly used in the United Kingdom and the EU. The dimensions of the A series paper sizes are defined by the ISO 216 standard.

We can also print the full B paper series which is most commonly used in the United States and Canada.

Non-standard poster sizes and sizes larger than A0 can also be supplied. Please contact us to find out more.

Order form 

To place an order, download a copy of the Online Reproduction Request Form (Word format). The form contains information about prices, formats and paper types.

Once the form is completed, print, sign and email the form to the Maps, Official Publications and Statistics (MOPS) Unit. The MOPS Unit will contact you about your order, once it has been received.

  • We require a completed reproduction request form for every order.
  • If you wish to use a departmental account to pay for an order with a total value of £100 or over, this requires an original ink signature (not scanned or typed). Orders under £100 can be authorised using a scanned signature.

 

Copyright restrictions and Licensing images

There are copyright restrictions on the reproduction of most material. Copyright duration can last 70 years for commercially published material, or 50 years for Crown Copyright material. The University can reproduce certain collections of maps under existing agreements. Material which is out of copyright can also be reproduced.

Some images may require permission from the copyright holder. Written permission from the copyright holder must be obtained in advance to reproduce any material which falls into this category.

To use an image or map from our collections in your publication, transmission, or exhibition, please download a copy of the Image Usage Application form.

Once the form is completed, sign and email the form to the Maps, Official Publications and Statistics (MOPS) Unit. Once it has been received, the MOPS Unit will contact you about your image usage.
