REQUESTING IT ACCOUNTS FOR VISITORS

Information for UofG staff members who are sponsoring visitors to the University.

  • Note only UofG employees can sponsor visitors, not those with honorary/affiliate status

What you need to do

This depends on how long your visitor will be here and what they need access to.

Wi-Fi only

eduroam Wi-Fi

If your visitor uses eduroam Wi-Fi at their home institution, they will also be able to use it here.

UofG visitor Wi-Fi

UofG visitor Wi-Fi for everyone else. No registration is required. Just connect to the UofG visitor wireless network using a mobile device. 

 

As early as possible, contact your local IT Support to request a short-term guest access account.

The Guest Account system will automatically email the user. Please make sure that the user is aware of your actions prior to requesting the creation of a Guest Account.

Moodle Guest account guidance

  • Moodle Guest Accounts only work with Moodle and Mahara
  • It is the requester's responsibility to ask for accounts to be de-activated / removed for any reason if they are deemed no longer required. 

External examiners 


More than 4 weeks

As early as possible, contact Human Resources to arrange for your visitor to have affiliate status.

Once their affiliate status is confirmed, your visitor can get a staff ID card, and you can make a helpdesk call to arrange access to any IT and campus facilities they require.

Delegates attending a conference

If the conference was organised through UofG Conferences and Events Delegate Registration Service, they will issue the delegates with IT access as appropriate.

All delegates will be able to use:

eduroam Wi-Fi

If the delegate uses eduroam Wi-Fi at their home institution, they will also be able to use it here.
