Creag Meaghaidh, 1,130m.

meaghaidh1.jpg (7303 bytes)Centre Post Direct, Creag Meaghaidh. This is 60 metres of steep grade V ice climbed solo in the winter of '80/'81. Ropes must have been very expensive then. Sadly, Donald who took the photo no longer climbs. Later that winter Donald was involved in a rescue of 3 un-roped teenagers in Crowberry Gully, after their friend fell to his death at his feet.

Ardverikie Estate. This is the location for the BBC series "Monarch of the Glen".

Landsat view of Loch Laggan

From the banks of the Abhainn Guilbinn at Luiblea looking down Glen Spean  In the 3rd BBC series of Monarch of the Glen, Archie panned for gold (for his wedding ring) upstream to the left of the photo.

Lochan na h-Earba

Lochan na h-Earba

South east over Lochan na h-Earba and Badenoch from the approach to Ardverikie Wall Binnean Shuas. The peace was disturbed only by distant bellowing of stags in the high corries of Badenoch and the ripples of fish rising in the Loch.

Ardverikie Wall, Binnein Shuas.

Lochan na h-Earba from top of pitch 2, Ardverikie Wall.

Ardverikie Wall, start of pitch 2, the steep rib to surmount the first overhang. It started to rain here which gave us second thoughts as microschist is slippy rock in the wet.

Ardverikie wall, pitch 3, the curving crack. The dark overhang at the top of the crack is bypassed on the right.

Ardverikie wall, pitch 4. John is tall and moved right from the belay flake as in the guides (red line). I found it easier to move straight up by standing on top of the flake and using the crack (blue line).

Ardverikie Wall, pitch 5. John went straight up, some guides suggest going up the left side of the scoop.
