party returning from the mauvais pas because they did not have a rope. Everyone
in a party needs to be very confident of their ability if no rope is carried.

Ascending the Mauvais Pas on a N/S traverse of the A'Chir Ridge. The route
lies on the east side of the ridge about one third of the way between the gap
and the end of this part of the ridge. This was 4
hours after rain, the short polished chimney below and left of this
picture was nearly impossible (VD in the dry). In a South/North traverse, a
gravity assisted controlled slide is much easier.
