Did you know that the first Chinese student to study at University of Glasgow arrived in 1886? Since then the university has forged strong links with the People’s Republic of China. There are over 1500 students from China studying at Glasgow at present.

The city of Glasgow is a thriving contemporary city. Chinese culture is very influential in Glasgow, with a wealth of Chinese restaurants, supermarkets and traditional Chinese medicine stores in the city.

The University of Glasgow has recently established the Confucius Institute in association with Nankai University. It builds on long-standing research collaborations between the two universities and is strongly founded on research on China across the University of Glasgow in the social sciences, arts, and business, in particular through the Scottish Centre for Chinese Social Science Research.

Have a look at the Visit Scotland brochure to get an idea of what Scotland and Glasgow have to offer!

Interested students are also welcome to get in touch with the English & Chinese Club, one of the over 150 clubs and societies that the University of Glasgow has to offer!

Entry requirements

Undergraduate

The matriculation card of the University of Glasgow's first Chinese student.
The University will consider students who have gained high scores in their Senior High School exams for direct entry into first year. Students who have taken a recognised foundation or access programme or equivalent will also be considered, as well as those students who have studied GCE A Levels.

Postgraduate

We will consider applications to Masters degrees from graduates of national quality Chinese universities with a GPA of 3.2 or above or an average score of 80% and above. Grades in relevant subjects will be accorded greater significance and entry will be entirely at the discretion of the University of Glasgow.

We can accept top-up honours degrees with the final year at a UK or other university but we normally require 60% or equivalent (2.1) standard in all courses in the final year of the degree.

Partnerships with Chinese Institutions

The University works closely with Nankai University and Tianjin University. Our Universitas 21 partners in China are Shanghai Jiaotong University and Fudan University.
