Air
Glasgow International Airport is Scotland's busiest airport serving over six
million passengers a year with direct flights to New York, Chicago and Toronto and 200
weekly flights to London Heathrow and Gatwick Airport, which in turn have direct
flights to 200 cities worldwide. Travel time from London airports is approximately 1 hour.
Also there are direct flights from 19 European cities, including the key hubs of
Amsterdam, Brussels, Copenhagen, Frankfurt and Paris.
Glasgow International Airport is located eight miles (13 kilometres) west of Glasgow
City Centre, and transfers can be made by taxi directly to the ICC6 Congress venue at the
University of Glasgow (transfer time 20 minutes) and nearby hotels & Halls of
Residence, or by Express Coach to the city centre. From the city centre
transfers to the vicinity of the University are by taxi (cost around £3.50) or by the
Underground to Hillhead Station (cost £1.00).
Glasgow Prestwick International Airport is located thirty miles (48 kilometres)
south of Glasgow and offers alternative scheduled flights with Ryanair for visitors
travelling from London Stansted, Cardiff, Dublin, Bournemouth, Barcelona Girona, Paris
Beauvais, Brussels Charleroi, Frankfurt Hahn, Oslo Torp, Stockholm Skavsta, Rome, Malaga,
Nice and Palma.
Prestwick Airport is 45 minutes from Glasgow by road or by a direct rail link to
the city centre. From the city centre transfers to the vicinity of the University
are by taxi (cost around £3.50) or Underground to Hillhead Station (cost £1.00).
Rail
Regular services run into Glasgow from all parts of the UK. Travel time from London is
approximately 5 hours, arriving at Glasgow Central Station. From the North, or from
Edinburgh you arrive at Glasgow Queen Street Station. From both stations transfers
to the vicinity of the University are by taxi (cost around £3.50) or Underground to
Hillhead Station (cost £1.00), or by bus (First Bus 11 from Queen Street Station, First
Bus 44 from Central Station)
Road
Glasgow is at the centre of a motorway system linking with every part of the UK and
across the English Channel with Continental Europe. The main M74 north/south motorway
allows access direct access. The city is served by an extensive range of express
coach services that use this motorway network. Travel time from London is approximately 8
hours.

The ICC6 Congress was held on the campus of the University of Glasgow, situated in the
Hillhead district 2 miles west of the city centre.
By train : From the city centre, take the Underground to Hillhead
station.
By bus : First Bus 11or 44 from the city centre to University
Avenue.
By car : The University is signposted locally. Parking within the grounds
was not available to ICC6 delegates, but there was free parking along the adjacent Kelvin
Way and the adjoining streets. Disabled drivers can park within the University grounds by
arrangement.

UK Visa Application
To visit the UK, no visa is required from citizens of most European countries. Please
consult the UK Embassy or authorities in your country if in doubt.
The Visa granting procedure may take more than one week and therefore it is recommended
that VISA applications are made as soon as possible, but not later than one month before
the Conference. To obtain a UK visa it may be necessary to submit to the UK Embassy a
Letter of Invitation. These could be requested from the ICC6 Secretariat. In some cases
the Embassy may require that the Letter of Invitation includes full names and dates of
birth of the author and of all accompanying persons (if any). More detailed
