Delegate Information
On Arrival
On arrival at Glasgow (see Travel page),
delegates were asked to go directly to their Hotel or Hall of Residence (see Accommodation Location Map), where they collected their room keys from
the Reception Desk. The following information refers to the University Halls of Residence.
Queen Margaret Hall. The Reception was open from
08.00 - 22.00h. After these hours there was a Security Officer on duty who will have the
keys for all delegates booked in for that night. There was a bell to call security at the

Cairncross House. The Reception was open from 08.00 -
22.00h. After that time there was a Security Officer on duty who will have the keys for

Registration
To complete their registration, delegates went at the following times to the Congress
Information Desk, located in the Concert Hall within the main Gilmorehill Campus of the
University of Glasgow (A12 on Campus
Map):
Sunday 17 July: 14.00 - 16.00h
Monday 18 July onwards: 08.00 - 18.00h
They received a delegate bag containing tickets for any booked events and
for any lunches ordered, a name badge (which must be worn at all times to gain access to
the Congress venues), a Programme and an Abstract book, and useful information about the
University and the City of Glasgow.
Congress Information Desk
The Congress Information Desk was located in the Concert Hall, within the
main Gilmorehill campus of the University of Glasgow (A12 on Campus Map). It was open at the
following times:
Sunday 17 July 14.00 - 18.00h
Monday - Thursday 18-21 July 08.00 - 18.00h
Friday 22 July 8.00 - 14.00h
The Congress Information Desk could be contacted by phone during the week.
Urgent fax messages ccould be sent to delegates via the GU Conference Office.
A Message Board was sited adjacent to the Congress Information Desk.
Transport
Transport was arranged to bring delegates from the Queen Margaret
Hall of Residence to the Congress venue on each morning of the ICC6 Congress. Two
coaches left the front entrance of the residence and hotel at 08.30h sharp.
Transport was also arranged to bring delegates from the Jury's
Hotel to the Congress venue on each morning of the ICC6 Congress. A 15 seat
minibus left the front entrance of the hotel at 08.15h and at 08.40h sharp.
The other residences were within 10 minutes walking distance, and
therefore no transport was provided for delegates staying in them.
Information about public transport was given in the delegate pack. Further
information about the bus and the underground services could be obtained at the Congress
Information Desk. For sight-seeing, a hop-on-hop off open-top bus passed the Congress
venue every 20 minutes during the day, and provided a tour of the main city sights. Black
Cab Taxis (including 'people carriers') could be ordered from the Glasgow Taxi Owners
Association (TOA) on 0141 429 7070.
Events and Venues (Refer to Campus Map for locations)
Plenary Lectures: The Plenary lectures
were held from 09.00-10.00h each day in the Bute Hall (A13).
Symposia: The Symposia were held from
10.30h onwards each day (or as indicated in the timetable) in four breakout locations:
Breakout 1: The Kelvin Gallery (A7)
Breakout 2: The Bute Hall (A13)
Breakout 3: James Watt Building Stevenson Lecture Theatre (A1)
Breakout 4: James Watt Building Lecture Theatre J15 (A1)
Refreshments: All Coffee breaks and
Lunches were located in the Hunter Halls (A14), adjacent to the Posters and
Exhibits. Afternoon tea breaks were located both in the Hunter Halls, and in the
reception area of the James Watt Building.
Internet Cafés: Two Internet Cafés,
sponsored by Viglen Computers Ltd. operated in the Hunter Halls (A14) and in the Zoology
Museum (B3) at the following times:
The Hunter Hall Internet Café was open from 08.00-18.00h
from Monday 18 July - Thursday 21 July, and from 08.00 - 13.00h on Friday 22 July. In
addition, it was open during the evening events on Monday - Thursday.
The Zoology Museum Internet Café was open from 08.00 -
17.30h on Tuesday 19 - Friday 22 July. Coffee and tea was available there.
Zoology Museum (B3)
The Zoology Museum houses the Zoological Collection of the Hunterian Museum, which was
available for viewing by ICC6 delegates during the course of the week. The Collections
Manager, Dr Geoff Hancock, was available to provide information about the collection.
There were also the following special displays in the Zoology Museum:
1. The Crustacean Collection of Alexander Patience, a
member of the Glasgow Natural History Society in the early 20th Century. Dr Geoff Hancock
(Zoology Museum Curator) and Professor Geoff Moore (UMBS Marine Station, Millport)
2. The rediscovery of the Tadpole Shrimp in Scotland. Dr
Larry Griffin (Wetlands Wildlife Trust, Caerlaverock, Dumfrieshire)
3. The work of the Clyde River Foundation. Ms Caroline
McGillivarry, Dr Willie Yeomans and Ms Jennifer Dodd
The Zoology Museum will be open to ICC6 delegates from
08.00 - 17.30h on Tuesday 19 - Friday 22 July.

The following University facilities were available to all
ICC6 Delegates and Accompanying Persons:
Hunterian Museum (A15)
The Hunterian Museum, adjacent to the Bute Hall Congress venue, is the oldest public
museum in Scotland. It has collections that are extensive and wide-ranging with just over
one million objects. An extensive permanent exhibition covers 4,500 million years of
evolution on our planet. Exhibits include the 325-million-year-old Bearsden shark,
Scottish dinosaurs, Roman Scotland and displays of Scottish and world minerals and rocks.
The Coin Centre houses one of the world's finest collections of coins and medals. Other
collections include Archaeology and World Cultures, Medicine and Anatomy, and a permanent
display of the life and work of Lord Kelvin.

Hunterian Art Gallery (D12)
The Hunterian Art Gallery, located close to the Congress venue, has one of the most
distinguished public art collections in Scotland. Based on William Hunter's collection
(Rembrandt, Chardin, Stubbs, prints), it has developed particular strengths in Scottish
Art especially the Glasgow Boys and Colourists, and the world's largest collection of
works by Scottish architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh (including the
'Mackintosh House'). It also houses Europe's largest display of works by the American
artist James McNeill Whistler (1834-1903).

University of Glasgow Visitor Centre (A11)
The Visitor Centre, located below the Congress venue, has displays and interactive
presentations on the University's history and current activities, a selection of souvenirs
for sale, and a cafe offering light refreshments . You can 'tour' the campus using a
camera mounted in the tower. The Visitor Centre will also provide details of attractions
elsewhere on the campus. Opening hours 09.30-17.00h (from Tuesday 19 July).
John Smith University Bookshop (A22)
The John Smith University Bookshop is located in the John McIntyre Building, adjacent to
the congress venue. It has books on all subjects, and carries stocks of recommended texts
for University courses.

Outgoing mail could be posted in the Post
Box located in The Professors' Square, west of the Congress venue.
Post Office: There is a Post Office near
the junction of Byres Road and Great Western Road.
Telephones Public telephones were
available in kiosks adjacent to the Congress venue.
Toilets Toilets weree available adjacent
to the Hunter Halls, and also in the basement area ('undercroft'), adjacent to the
University Visitor Centre
Disabled access Access to all levels used for the conference is provided
by a lift located adjacent to the Congress Information Desk.
Restaurants & Cafes: A very wide range
of cafes and restaurants can be found on Gibson Street, Byres Road, Ashton Lane and
adjacent streets and lanes around the Congress venue. An Eating Out Guide was provided in
the Delegate Bag or at the Congress Desk.
Shops: A wide range of shops can be found
on Byres Road, adjacent to the Congress venues.
Banks & Bureaux de Change: There are
numerous banks on Byres Road. Bureaux de Change for exchange of currency can be found
within the Travel Agents 'Going Places' and 'Thomas Cook', also on Byres Road.
