anterior

This is a general anatomical term of direction or position. It is the equivalent of "forwards" or "in front of" as in
  • the common peroneal nerve passes anteriorly (i.e. forwards) around the neck of the fibula
  • the adductor longus muscle lies anterior to (i.e. in front of) the adductor brevis muscle
  • branches of the femoral nerve supply skin over the anterior (i.e. front) surface of the thigh.
