anterior

This is a general anatomical term of direction or position. It is the equivalent of "forwards" or "in front of" as in the common peroneal nerve passes anteriorly (i.e. forwards) around the neck of the fibula the adductor longus muscle lies anterior to (i.e. in front of) the adductor brevis muscle branches of the femoral nerve supply skin over the anterior (i.e. front) surface of the thigh.
