Infection and immunity

Infection & Immunity encompasses work on significant animal and human pathogens, including zoonotic agents, and the ways in which they interact with their host species. Work ranges from basic research aimed at defining the mechanisms of pathogen gene expression, development and differentiation through to applied research on vaccines and antimicrobials. The grouping includes our established major strength in parasitology. A significant recent development has been the decision to concentrate the University’s virology expertise in the Institute of Comparative Medicine and this initiative has been supported by both the recruitment of new staff and the relocation of research groups from other sites. Our expertise in bacteriology is underpinned by interactions with colleagues at Gilmorehill and the Moredun Research Institute.
