About the Faculty
The Faculty of Medicine is one of the most prestigious in the UK, renowned for its pioneering teaching methods and superb facilities. As a result our graduates are highly sought after in the medical professions in the UK and abroad.
The Faculty is made up of the Medical School, the and Nursing & Health Care, while the Faculty's Graduate School is responsible for maintaining the standards of education at a higher degree level and for monitoring individual progress.
Our Medical School has led the UK by introducing one of the most important innovations in the teaching of medicine: a curriculum centred around problem-based learning techniques. Students are introduced to clinical scenarios from the very beginning of their education, supported by some of the best facilities for student learning available. These include custom-built areas for developing clinical skills and a fully equipped ward housed in the award-winning Wolfson Medical School Building.
The Dental School takes great care to ensure that the teaching methods employed, the facilities and the content of programmes are in line with the latest techniques in dentistry. Students follow a specially developed curriculum designed to meet the needs of today’s patients and practitioners and benefit from excellent facilities for patient care, student clinical practice and training.
Nursing & Health Care Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes are distinguished by their strong science base. Students are taught by leading experts from Nursing & Health Care, The Medical School and the Institute of Biomedical & Life Sciences. Clinical experience is undertaken in university teaching hospitals and in the community where students receive supervision from dedicated mentors, supported by clinical skills laboratory sessions in the Wolfson Medical School. Our graduates are sought after at home and abroad due to the specific attributes and knowledge they have achieved.
The Graduate School is responsible for maintaining the standards of education at a higher degree level and for monitoring individual progress. The Graduate School aims to provide a high quality learning environment for those undertaking taught and research degrees, and to ensure a balance between in-depth individual experimental research experience and more general training in a wide range of areas which will prepare graduates for careers in medical research whether in a clinical, academic or commercial environment.
