Research During Outbreaks

At the SIRN Steering Group meeting on 2 July 2008, Ms Evonne Curran, Nurse Consultant Infection Control, gave a presentation on the work being done by Dr Fu-Meng Khaw and the Northumberland, Tyne & Wear Health Protection Team, in trying to find a procedure to allow ethical approval to be granted in time for research to be carried out during the management of an incident or outbreak.  The Team are currently building a Toolkit for use in England and SIRN intend to test out the kit with a view to possibly adapting it for use in Scotland.  Dr Brown, Dr Leanord and Dr Reilly will be working on the document with Ms Curran.
