Andrew Pitt (Scientific Director)
Andrew Pitt is the Scientific Director of the RASOR consortium, Director of the Sir Henry Wellcome Functional Genomics Facility and Senior Lecturer in Proteomics at the University of Glasgow. He is also Director of the Doctoral Training Centre in Proteomic and Cell Technologies and the Scottish Biomarker Discovery and Identification Facility. Andy has a strong track record in interdisciplinary research, focusing on the interfaces between chemistry, biology, engineering and medicine. He is an expert in proteomics and its application to real-world biological and medical research, with extensive experience in biological applications of mass spectrometry (MS), biomolecular chemistry, analytical biochemistry, biomarker discovery and development of new technologies. He is involved in a number of multidiciplinary research projects including RASOR and the Molecular Nose.
The research in his group covers many topics in proteomics, protein science, post-genomics, biochemistry, bimolecular analysis, technology development and systems and synthetic biology. The group is highly multidisciplinary covering areas from physics to medicine. The main research themes are:
• generating new and useful technologies and techniques for modern protein research, especially proteomics
• biomarker discovery and identification
• deciphering complex biochemical pathways and molecular networks
• data generation, integration and modelling for systems biology
• clinical applications of proteomics
