In the first few weeks of the first year students are introduced to the theory and practice of experimental design using many of the basic biomedical research techniques. Techniques with which the students will become acquainted include mammalian cell culture, DNA extraction, PCR, Southern and western blotting, Drosophila genetics, protein purification and synthetic chemistry.
