'What is educational theory and why do we need it?'
Professor Gert Biesta, Professor of Education at the Stirling Institute of Education, University of Stirling
Following our last fruitful and well-attended seminar on activity theory, the Faculty of Education invites staff and students from across the University to listen to and engage with experts on theory and evidence in educational research. Professor Gert Biesta will present on the question of educational theory, as distinct from theory which education utilises from other disciplines, and its role in the design of research and in data analysis. Professor Paul Connolly will consider how quantitative methods can be deployed in a more critical and inclusive way as part of a wider mixed-method study.
This event is open to staff across the University. Anyone interested in attending should advise Joan Ballantine, Faculty of Education Research Support Secretary.
