About us
The Faculty of Education is the most recently formed in the
University. Its roots, however, go back to the 19th Century founded as
it is on a teachers’ college, one of the oldest and most established
departments of adult and lifelong learning in Britain and a number of
research and teaching centres, most especially Europe’s long
established Scottish Centre for Research in Education (SCRE).
In keeping with the identity and ambition of a major international,
and research-led University the Faculty of Education offers
opportunities for those wishing to study with scholars of outstanding
international reputation.
Among the key areas of faculty strength are included:
- Adult and Lifelong Learning, with a strong commitment to Community Education
- Professional Knowledge in Teachers’ Education

A particular strength of the Faculty is educational leadership
where we offer a number of programmes including our ground-breaking

collaboration with the University’s Business School. Complementing
this is a programme designed particularly for those who wish to become
leaders in religiously denominated schools. We also offer a Masters in
Educational Research.
