"Knowledge Discovery with Bayesian Networks"
Synopsis: The automated extraction of structured knowledge
from databases is a challenging task with spectacular
applications and vast potential reward. This talk will
describe the use of Bayesian networks to discover knowledge
in databases. Bayesian networks are a knowledge
representation formalism grounded in the well established
mathematics of Bayesian statistics and graph theory. We
will first describe the induction of Bayesian networks from
databases using automated Bayesian modelling techniques.
Then we will demonstrate Bayesware Discoverer, a program
for the automated induction of Bayesian networks from data.
Finally, we will illustrate the use of Bayesian networks as
a knowledge discovery tool in a customer profiling
application for a non-profit American organization.
