Issued: Fri, 09 Jun 2017 16:04:00 BST

Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) asked pupils to make a poster depicting a job advert that included a short description of the kind of tasks you would expect a successful candidate to be involved in on a daily basis and were asked to include subjects that the applicants should have studied at school.

The competition winner was Eleanor Macintosh from Nairn Academy with Stevie Mackenzie of Dornoch Academy and Annie Giordano from St Andrews and St Brides the runner’s up. Eleanor chose to focus on the career of a vetinary nurse while Stevie and Annie chose botany and machine engineering, respectively.

SRUC courses are underpinned by the innovative science that supports these land-based industries, and the way they interact and support the environment around them and the businesses that rely on them. The career opportunities within this sector are certainly something out of the ordinary. If you care about the environment, animal welfare, conservation or you simply don’t want a job where you will be stuck in an office 9 to 5 then SRUC can help you find a course and career path in a subject you can be passionate about.
